Da Nang- Viet Nam 15/52 places to go in 2019.

Danang, Vietnam’s third largest city, is probably best known for being a gateway to the nearby Unesco Heritage town of Hoi An. But in the last few years, it’s begun to develop its own reputation as the Miami of Vietnam, with a strong foodie scene and new hotels and resorts popping up on a five-mile-long beach strip, including the InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort, on its own private cove, with hillside villas with individual plunge pools. A typical day might start with a morning swim on the sandy, crescent-shaped Non Nuoc Beach and perhaps a quick stop at the Han Market. Then, an afternoon visit to the Marble Mountains, where travelers can explore the temples and pagodas that look out over My Khe Beach and, later, dinner back in the city, perhaps at Nén, a new restaurant from the much-followed food blogger Summer Le. Perhaps finish the day with a visit to the highly Instagrammable Cau Rong Dragon Bridge, which is illuminated every night. Don’t leave without sampling a bowl of mi quang, the justifiably famous local noodle soup made with a turmeric-infused broth, chicken, pork, local seafood and shredded cabbage, and available for about $1 at any number of street-food stalls.

Da Nang in eyes of foreign visitors

Danang in the eyes of Miss World

In the last few days, Danang has gone on viral with the beautiful representatives of Miss World from all over the world. Danang FantastiCity has a quick and interesting chat with Miss World Vietnam 2016 – Truong Thi Dieu Ngoc. She has the big idea of connecting cultures and people of Vietnam to the world via the representatives of Miss World.

Can you share with us about the visit of the group to Danang this time?

From Miss World 2016, I had the chance to meet and connect with many Miss World representatives, and from that I have always wanted to become an embassador of Vietnam tourism, promoting the image of the country to many different nations.

During this visit, I chose Danang because it is where I was born and grew up with my family, with many beautiful memories and love.

The visit was short but my friends can understand the people and the landscapes of Danang. The ladies are from Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand, Japan, Indonesia and India.

Each of them brings a different cultural highlights to shine with the culture of Vietnam, this is an exciting experience.

During their time in Danang, what is the deepest impression of the group about the place and the people?

The most impressive thing would be the people, this is what everyone agrees.

Danang people are very friendly and hospitable. From the minute we were arriving, the whole group were very much welcomed and well taken care of with a lovely dinner at Novotel Danang Premier Han River.

For the landscapes, each person has their own experience. Coming to Nui Than Tai Hot Springs Park and experiencing mud bath, all of them loved it because it is really good for their soft skin.

At Bana hills, besides checking in at the most viral bridge on the media recently, the girls were having a lot of fun with the artists in the carnival and dinner at Beer Plaza.

What is their favourite food in Danang?

Well when it comes to Danang cuisine, they were all excited to try banh trang thit heo (fresh spring rolls with pork) at Tran Restaurant, a great Danang cuisine destination.

Many of them also enjoyed banh xeo (Vietnamese pancakes) and said it would be perfect for cosy weather.

On behalf on the whole group, do you want to share something else with all the fans of Danang FantastiCity?

On behalf of the group, I can definitely say “We love Danang city”. The trip was only for 5 days but it has made a great impression on each member.

In the future, I will also try my best to invite more representatives from Miss World to Danang, to promote Danang to international friends.

Thank you for your lovely sharing with Danang FantastiCity. We wish you and Miss World ladies a great day and that you will all  keep great memories of Danang.

‘Wonderful’ and ‘warm’ are two of the words that international sports managers, athletes, and guests have used to describe Da Nang after their stays in the city during international events last year.

Da Nang-Viet Nam Clipper Race team’s skipper Wendy Tuck

Vietnamese-Swiss Stefan Nguyen, a member of the Danang Dragons professional basketball club, has already said “I belong to this city”.  Another member of this club is Vietnamese-American Horace Nguyen, whose parents are from Da Nang.  He said that he couldn’t hold back the tears when he was chosen to play for the club and that it was a special day in his life.

Mr Nirut Bunmark from Thailand, a representative from the main sponsors of the 5th Asian Beach Games, and Mr Jeremy Brett Walker, Editor-in-chief of the Sporting Asia Magazine of the Olympic Council of Asia, remarked that they were very impressed by the city’s beautiful landscapes, peaceful living environment, and the friendliness and helpfulness of local residents.

Mr Nirut Bunmark added that he felt at home during his stay in the city because locals were unconditionally willing to help him when needed.

Basketball player Rudolphe Joly

Taking advantage of being an official sponsor and host port for the 2015 – 2016 Clipper Round the World Race, Da Nang impressed first-time international visitors with the beauty of its landscapes and people.

Mr Rich Edwards, a sports reporter from the BBC’s Sports Channel, said that for him, Da Nang was the most impressive destination he had visited so far during the race.  He and the other reporters had been especially impressed by the great welcome given by the local leaders and residents.  That was the reason why he, and all the boat crews, were sad to leave this beautiful seaside city.

At a spectacular farewell ceremony for the Clipper Race boats on 27 February last year as they left Da Nang for Qingdao (China), the skipper of the Da Nang-Viet Nam boat, Wendy Tuck, was given a surprise early birthday celebration.  Although her birthday wasn’t until 1 March, she was presented with a bouquet of flowers and a birthday gift from municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman Dang Viet Dung, whilst thousands of local residents sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to her as she left.  The Australian skipper said, “I am very happy and completely surprised by the wonderful birthday wishes and gift.   My crew members and I leave with unforgettable experiences of our stay in your city.  Da Nang is an incredible stopover.  I am very proud to represent this city”.

Argentinian striker Merlo

Rudolphe Joly, who was named the most outstanding basketball player in the Viet Nam Basketball Association 2016 (VBA 2016), wrote on his personal page after he came back from Canada that he had gained the respect of local fans.  Thanks to their active emotional support, he and his Danang Dragons teammates have been crowned the champions of the VBA 2016.  He hopes to visit Da Nang again soon because he knows that he is always welcomed in the city as its son.

Mr Peter Nagy, Head of the Swimming Coaches’ Board of Hungary’s BVSC Zuglo Club, noted “I have visited Thailand, Singapore and Hong Kong before, but I am deeply interested in Da Nang.  Da Nang is a city of light, with friendly and hospitable people.  I wish to visit Da Nang many more times if I ever get the chance.”

Amongst those who also love the city is SHB Da Nang’s Sebastion Gaston Merlo who has been the V League season’s top goalscorer 4 times.  The Argentinian striker said that he loves the city because of its peaceful and safe atmosphere.  He affirmed that he does not want to leave Da Nang, even when he retires as a professional footballer.  He considers Da Nang to be his second home.
